Replatforming Online Secretariat with Liferay
New digital era for the Italian university
The University is a state university based in Milan. Since its foundation, it has been accredited as a point of reference for the teaching of science, literature and arts. It is one of the oldest schools of its kind in Italy, a living emblem of Italian higher education, since 1700. The needs of the University were related to the management of its own secretarial portal used by Administrative Staff, Teachers and Students, which over the years had become poorly scalable, difficult to maintain and complex to use by all interested users.
With Liferay for a modern and efficient user experience
Project Brief
The aim of the project was to replatform the online secretariat of the University of Milan in order to improve the user experience (administrative staff, teachers and students) and make operational and document management activities more efficient. A new technological platform was implemented that can:
- Simplify administrative and consultative activities for staff
- Optimize document management and sharing
- Integrate access via SPID credentials
- Enable payments via PagoPA
- Provide an improved user experience through more usable user interface and advanced access profiling
WHAT WE DID
Replatforming of the online secretariat
Sintra enhanced the portal using Liferay, to improve the end-user experience. The modular architecture ensures scalability and extensibility of functionality, secure access, and simplified management of documents and content for stakeholders.

A challenging project
The solution proposed by Sintra involved the replatforming of the entire secretariat portal. The project presented specific requirements to be taken into account, in particular:
- Flexibility and scalability of the platform for future evolutions
- Optimization of internal processes of administrative teams
- Optimization of all internal document management
- Optimizing portal security through advanced user management and profiling
- Integrations with external systems (Spid, Inps, PagoPa)
