Who is Busitalia
Busitalia – Sita Nord is the company of the FS Italiane Group’s Passenger Division specialized in road passenger transport. The main line of business is local public transport, which plays a complementary and integrative role to the railway: in urban centers, it covers the last mile, and in rural areas, it integrates the railway infrastructure

Brief Project
Busitalia needed a headless eCommerce platform that would make ticket sales simpler and more modern, addressing the following needs: cybersecurity, scalable architecture, and an enhanced user experience. This was made possible through the development of a custom middleware that enables automatic and personalized management of pricing, as well as a driver app designed to streamline employees’ work and improve the passenger experience

Busitalia, in the context of selling tickets for bus routes, needed to proceed with a technological upgrade of the current eCommerce platform to make it compliant with current security standards and more modern.

Custom middleware, the winning card
The middleware developed by Sintra represents the heart of the integration between the platforms and external systems
It simplified communication between the frontend and backend services, ensuring flexibility and reducing the load on the core systems
Additionally, since Busitalia has a variable pricing system based on specific conditions, such as time, seat availability, and specific dates, they required a middleware that automatically calculated the prices for routes using multiplicative factors, then reflected them in the cart
Development of an application for drivers
We developed an application for Busitalia operators, allowing them to manage ticket purchases directly onboard the vehicle
The application is integrated with the middleware, allowing real-time and accurate access to the actual ticket price and availability, enabling on-board purchase completion and printing. Once the purchase is complete, the middleware sends the data to Shopware. This way, Busitalia has enhanced the customer experience, as passengers no longer need to go through traditional purchasing channels (eCommerce, retail points), streamlining and simplifying the process
